Ammonium dihydrogen phosphate, also known as Monoammonium Phosphate, is a white crystal with the molecular formula NH4H2PO4, soluble in water and slightly soluble in ethanol. Heating will decompose into ammonium metaphosphate (NH4PO3), which can be made by the reaction of ammonia and phosphoric acid, mainly used in the manufacture of fertilizers and fire extinguishers. Stable in air. 1g dissolved in 2.5ml water. Slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in acetone. The aqueous solution is acidic. Solubility in water at room temperature ( 20℃) is 37.4g. Relative density 1.80. Melting point 190℃. Refractive index 1.525.
 

 
Applications:

Used as fertilizer and fire retardant for wood, paper and fabric (e.g. as an extinguishing agent for match stalks and candle wicks), also used in the manufacture of medicines, etc. It is also used as an additive for ruminant feed. Stable in air. Decompose and lose ammonia and water when the temperature is above the melting point, forming ammonium metaphosphate and phosphoric acid and mixture. A small portion decomposes at 100°C.

As a fertilizer during crop growth is the most appropriate application of ammonium phosphate, ammonium phosphate is acidic in the soil, and seeds too crystalline may have adverse effects, in acidic soil it is better than calcium, ammonium sulfate, in alkaline soil is also superior to other fertilizers; do not mix with alkaline fertilizers, so as not to reduce the effectiveness of fertilizer.
