Properties
Potassium nitrate is a colorless transparent orthorhombic crystal or powder and particle, with a relative density of 2.109 and a melting point of 334 ℃. When heated to about 400 ℃, oxygen is liberated and transformed into potassium nitrite, which is further heated and decomposed into potassium oxide and nitrogen oxide. Soluble in water, liquid ammonia and glycerol; Insoluble in absolute ethanol and ether. It is not easy to deliquesce in the air and is an oxidant.

Applications:
1. Potassium nitrate, also known as potassium nitrate and flint, is dissolved and recrystallized by sodium nitrate and potassium chloride. Potassium nitrate fertilizer is 100% plant nutrient, which can be completely dissolved in water. It is a nitrogen-free potassium and nitrogen compound fertilizer. 2. Potassium nitrate can provide nutrients for crops under any conditions. It can be applied to crops in four seasons and will not cause salt accumulation in the soil. Since potassium nitrate is not volatile, it can be applied directly to the soil surface without covering.
3. At the same time, nitrate nitrogen and potassium contained in potassium nitrate are a large number of elements necessary for crop growth. They have good coordination and can promote each other's absorption by crops and promote the absorption of other nutrient elements. Therefore, potassium nitrate is often used as high concentration potassium fertilizer in agriculture.
4. Potassium nitrate is often used as top dressing because it has no chlorine and sodium, low salt index, good water solubility but no moisture absorption, high nutrient content and fast fertilizer effect.
Notes for Potassium Nitrate application:
1. Potassium nitrate is easy to move after being applied into the soil, which is suitable for top dressing of crops, but it should not be used as base fertilizer and seed fertilizer. It should be applied in dry land rather than paddy field.
2. Potassium nitrate is suitable for extra root topdressing (foliar fertilizer), and the optimum concentration is 0.6% ~ 2%.
3. When soaking seeds with potassium nitrate, it is best to use potassium nitrate aqueous solution with a concentration of 0.2% for seed soaking and seed dressing.
4. Potassium nitrate cannot be applied as potassium sulfate fertilizer because potassium nitrate contains nitrogen fertilizer, which will cause excessive nitrogen fertilizer in crops.
5. When Potassium nitrate is used as base fertilizer, it cannot be mixed with calcium superphosphate and fresh organic fertilizer to avoid nitrogen loss.
6. Potassium nitrate is also the raw material for making gunpowder. Therefore, special attention should be paid to anti combustion, high temperature and explosion during storage and transportation, and contact with flammable substances is prohibited.
