Potassium nitrate is a colorless transparent orthorhombic crystal or powder and particle, with a relative density of 2.109 and a melting point of 334 ℃. When heated to about 400 ℃, oxygen is liberated and transformed into potassium nitrite, which is further heated and decomposed into potassium oxide and nitrogen oxide. Soluble in water, liquid ammonia and glycerol; Insoluble in absolute ethanol and ether. It is not easy to deliquesce in the air and is an oxidant.

Potassium nitrate is a chlorine free nitrogen potassium compound fertilizer with high solubility. Its effective components nitrogen and potassium can be quickly absorbed by crops without chemical residues. As fertilizer, it should be applied to vegetables, fruits and flowers, and some chlorine sensitive crops (such as potatoes, strawberries, beans, cabbage, lettuce, peanuts, carrots, onions, blueberries, tobacco, apricots, grapefruit and avocado).
Potassium nitrate is a strong oxidant. Contact with organic matter can cause combustion and explosion. Therefore, potassium nitrate should be stored in a cool and dry place away from fire and heat source.
